Description: Drafts, negotiates, reviews, revises and analyzes contracts relating to development, production, acquisition and distribution of theatrical motion pictures. Prepares applications, permits, affidavits or certificates required by law or regulation and necessary for production and/or distribution of theatrical motion pictures. Researches and answers inquiries regarding contract rights and obligations, privacy rights, copyright laws, legal clearances and other legal matters. Advises other Warner Bros. personnel and production personnel on matters relating to theatrical motion picture acquisition, development, production and distribution contracts. Coordinates with and performs the legal work requirements of various Warner Bros. departments, including visual effects and the acquisition of distribution rights and employment of writers, actors, producers, directors, etc. Serves as a liaison to Corporate Legal in the handling of some claims and litigation. Supervises clerical personnel in performance of legal-related tasks. Performs other related duties as assigned by SVP & GC and/or production personnel.
Requirements: BA/BS degree required. JD degree required from a top-tier law school. Minimum 6-8 years experience practicing law, with at least 4 years in the TV and/or motion picture business required. Major studio and/or major law firm experience required. Experience with some distribution/finance transactions preferred. Must have knowledge of law and legal environment of entertainment industry sufficient to analyze, draft and negotiate legal documents in a well-organized, precise and concise manner and counsel management on legal implications of their actions. Must be able to research legal questions and communicate responses effectively to all levels of corporate and production staff. Must be able to supervise clerical personnel engaged in performance of legal-related tasks. California Bar membership required. Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of personnel, both in person, by email and on the telephone. Must be able to work well under time constraints in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to handle multiple tasks. Must be able to organize and schedule work effectively. Must be able to work flexible or long hours if and when necessary.
